My First Altered Canvas

I am experimenting with a lot of new techniques these days and one of them is Mixed Media Art. I have tried different methods ,sketches and material. Today am going to share my first altered canvas with you all.

I always wanted to have a customized wall art with a picture of me and my husband on it. After a lot of trails I zeroed down on a simple sketch.

Ok I just tweaked the actual photograph... removed our photo due to privacy reasons.

I created a textured background using the Tissue Paper technique mentioned here and did some misting all over with black acrylic paint.

All the embellishments are handmade. Papers and fabric used have been recycled .

A more closer look at the flowers.

The bird is a free hand silhouette cut out of a wedding invite .. the gold foil is from a chocolate and the rolled flowers are made out of old magazines.... Leaves were picked from an old flower vase..The Swirls are hand cut too !!!Misting is done with an old tooth brush dipped in black acrylic paint...

The top right hand corner seemed to be too empty ....so I added a bird house and a couple of birds to symbolically represent a new home....

So do u think I've got future in mixed media art??? Do leave your valuable feedback... your comments not only add a feel good factor to my day ... they also help me to improvise.
